Flammable products / lack of knowledge
Almost nothing can be put into jar candles apart from wicks and paint. It is FORBIDDEN, harmful and flammable: putting food decorations, mineral stones, dry plants, glitter, mica powder, glass / plastic message letters into the wax, because it is flammable, the candle glass can crack and even cause suffocation in children!
Testing and non-compliance
You have to comply with very strict EU rules, which very few people in Hungary follow or don't even know about!
Use of non-heat resistant candle jars
Transparent canning or brown cosmetic bottles are the favorite at home because they can be purchased cheaply.
Jars for preserves or cosmetics can crack at any time due to slight heat, these products are not designed for candle use.
An average glass will crack at an unexpected change of 40C.
The maximum external temperature of a crucible must not reach 60C in the case of a glass crucible and 50C in the case of a metal crucible for 4 hours of burning
Usability of fragrance oils
Not all fragrance oils are good for candles, you should only buy them from a place that specializes in this.
Absence of EU notification obligation
The candle maker must have a notification and UFI and BN numbers for all of their products.
Unreal burning times
The ideal burn of a 1-wick candle is ~4.5-5.5g/hour
100g charge / 5g/hour burning = 20 hours
200g charge / 5.5g/hour burning = 36 hours
In the case of hand-made products, due to the lack of testing, the wick is often oversized, which means faster burning and a higher temperature for non-heat-resistant glass.
What is described here is not true for everyone and respect for the exception.
